EREC 140 - Environmental Chemistry

This course will introduce the concepts of inorganic and organic chemistry that are most relevant to soils and aquatic systems.  Lectures will cover atomic and molecular structure, formulae and equations, equilibria, gases, acids and bases, major classes and nomenclature of organic compounds, functional groups, detergents and environmental applications.  The laboratory will support the lecture content with exercises focusing on field measurements important to water samples and the interpretation of analytical results.
