If you don’t read or write as well as you want, or if you need better skills for your job, Adult Basic Education (ABE) can help. ABE is a great choice for adults who need to work on their basic reading, writing, math, and computer skills to increase their job options or prepare for college and apprenticeship programs.
Returning to school as an adult can be intimidating, but the ABE program offers a supportive environment and makes learning a rewarding experience, even if it has been years since you entered a classroom. Classes in the program focus on basic reading, writing, math and computers. All classes are offered up to and including a Grade 9 level. You can then continue to take high school courses through the Academic Upgrading/College Preparation program.
The courses you complete and study skills you develop in Adult Basic Education will increase your confidence, enhance your life skills, and encourage you to learn more in the future. The courses and learning opportunities focus on practical skills. Learn to write a paragraph or how to type documents on a computer. We’ll help you improve your reading and writing skills, understand where to place a comma and update your resume.
The ABE program is flexible and has a teaching staff that is very experienced, understanding, and encouraging. By completing the ABE program, you will have a foundation that will help you to be successful if you choose to further your education in upgrading courses.
For students who are interested in finding a good job, the ABE program will help. Many of our students are taking the program with the goal of getting a better or more interesting job.
Potential students must first talk with an academic advisor and then write an assessment in order to be placed in the level in which they will achieve the most success. For more information about the assessment or to book a time to write it, call (403) 529-3896. Individuals who have completed courses in the school system may provide transcripts of the courses they previously took.
