An academic advisor is on campus to provide students with the following
services:
- To provide assistance with course selection and program planning
- To provide information on admission and graduation requirements
- To provide information on university transfer and diploma/certificate
programs
- To provide assistance with course scheduling and registration
- To provide assistance to adult student returning to school
- To provide academic placement testing for adult students
- To provide information on other post-secondary institutions
- To provide campus tours and student for a day program
- To assist students with any area of their academic program

Cafeteria
The Brooks Campus cafeteria is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.,
serving hot breakfasts and featuring daily lunch specials.
Computer Labs
The Brooks Campus has two major computer labs for use in our college programs,
community education courses, business and industry sessions and facility
bookings. The 35 computers are networked with internet access and use
of the majority of popular Microsoft programs. Call 362-1677 to book the
computer lab for your training needs. The library also has computers with
internet access for general student and community use.

Brooks Campus offers a wide range of facilities and services to meet

The Brooks Campus offers a job board for all students and community members

Open Learning Centre
The Open Learning Centre is an alternative way of offering
college preparation courses to students in a flexible, time conscience
manner. High school level courses are offered through a combination
of direct instruction, tutorial and self-study. Courses taught in the
Open Learning Centre cover the same curriculum as in regular classrooms
including lab work where applicable. The curriculum is similar to the
Alberta Public School system, but students do not receive credit towards
an Alberta Education diploma. Students will receive credit towards
a Medicine Hat College high school equivalency diploma.
Admission:
The Brooks Campus welcomes all potential students to into the College
Preparation/Upgrading Program. Students need to complete a Medicine
Hat
College application form and pay the $60 application in order to apply
at the Brooks Campus - Medicine Hat College. Students must provide
a copy
of past high school transcripts or they can write an academic assessment
in order to determine the appropriate level to register at. Students
are
advised to meet with the academic advisor to determine a plan of study
that will suit their educational needs.
Registration:
Students may register for College Preparation/Upgrading courses at the
beginning of each month, with the exceptions of April, August and
December.
Courses are usually offered in the daytime and the evening, depending
on the number of students registered. The OLC is designed for full or
part time studies and is flexible for the working student. Courses are
a maximum of 14 weeks in length. The cost of each upgrading course is
currently $329.36 plus the cost of books. Government funding is
available for upgrading courses - contact the Academic Advisor at 362-1682
for more information.

For students who need to upgrade their English and math skills before
entering into high school level upgrading.

How Does the OLC Operate?:
Students will receive between two and four hours of direct classroom
instruction a week. Unit testing and assignments are to be completed
through
self-study. It is recommended that students spend five hours a week
per class
in the OLC (includes class instruction and self-study). The OLC Assistant
is in Monday through Thursday to assist students when instructors
are
not in and in arranging exam times. Exams and tests can be written at
the students convenience during scheduled OLC hours. The role of
the OLC
Assistant is to provide tutorial services, assist in exam preparation
and administration, facilitate between the student and instructor
and

Parking is free at the Brooks Campus. Handicapped parking is also available.
Students' Association
Students' Association
The Brooks Campus Student Council (BCSC) represents the student population at the Brooks Campus. The Student Council offers a variety of services to students including campus events and student health care benefits. The Student Council also supports the Peer Support Centre and the Student Ambassador program. New students are encouraged and welcomed to join these clubs. Volunteers are needed for the Peer Support Centre and Student Ambassador programs.
The Brooks Campus has 4 student positions that are elected each year:
Chairperson – Chief Executive Officer of the Association at the Brooks Campus and works closely with the Medicine Hat campus Students’ Association.
Director of Academics – Acts as the liaison between students and the College for any appeal, grievance or other issue.
Director of Activities – Responsible for organizing all events sanctioned by the BCSC and is the liaison between all recognized clubs and the BCSC. Also is responsible for coordinating the Peer Support Centre to ensure that it is available at the Brooks Campus.
Director at Large – Deals with any additional duties provided by the Chairperson of the BCSC.

Recreation
Brooks Campus provides an outdoor court for basketball, tennis and
street hockey. Equipment can be signed out from the library. In the main
building, there is a spacious game room offering ping-pong, billiards,
air hockey and foosball.
Lakeside Leisure Centre
All full-time Brooks Campus students are eligible for a free pass to
the new Lakeside Leisure Centre, which includes two indoor skating
arenas, the EnCana Community Gymnasium, fitness room, curling rink,
35-metre swimming pool, waterslide, water park, sauna and steam room.
Part-time students can purchase a pass for a prorated fee.
The Students' Association provides a variety of on campus activities
throughout the year. Services offered by the Brooks Campus Students'
Association include bulletin boards, student handbook, student club funding
and health and dental plan. The SA Office can be reached by calling (403)
