Communication Studies (BPA) Athabasca UniversityProgram OverviewThe Bachelor of Professional Arts (Communication Studies) degree allows you to apply your communications knowledge, skills and experience within national and international contexts of mass media and communication.This four-year, 120-credit degree is available if you have completed an Athabasca University approved two-year communications related diploma from Medicine Hat College or another recognized post-secondary institution. Typically the diploma counts as 60 credits toward the degree. Athabasca University has approved the following Medicine Hat College diplomas for transfer to this degree: • Business Administration • CADD/Technical Illustrator • Global Tourism and Marketing • Office Management This degree requires students to complete a minimum of ten courses through Athabasca University to fulfill the residency requirement. You may complete this degree by taking a combination of Medicine Hat College courses as well as Athabasca University courses offered onsite at Medicine Hat College. There will, however, be some courses that must be completed through distance learning. This program is also available entirely through distance learning. Medicine Hat College senior-level courses in areas such as English, History, Psychology and Sociology are suitable for meeting the third and fourth year requirements of this degree.
