  General Program Information

After completion of the Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) certificate program, you may enter the work force or continue your studies in the CADD Technical Illustration program at Medicine Hat College. Upon successful completion of all the courses in the program at Medicine Hat College you will be granted a one-year certificate. You will also have the option of transferring to the Engineering Drafting and Design program at Lethbridge Community College or to SAIT Polytechnic.

The Computer-Aided Drafting and Design certificate program is designed to prepare you for both traditional and more advanced computer-aided drafting (CADD) skills to meet the demand of the changing Canadian industry. Good opportunity for pay and advancement are available to graduates. As a successful graduate you will have a basic understanding of architecture, computers, surveying, mechanical and topographical drawings.

In the second year of the CADD Technical Illustration program, you will learn more advanced skills in engineering, 3D design and modeling, architecture, mechanical design, municipal design and piping/pressure. Upon successful completion of two years at Medicine Hat College you will be awarded a diploma in CADD Technical Illustration.

  Career Opportunities

Employment opportunities exist with consulting engineers, land surveyors, oil and gas industry, mining and manufacturing companies, federal, provincial, and municipal governments.

The broad engineering background provides you the opportunity to be employed in research, design, manufacturing and sales. You also have the opportunity to become an important member of any team engaged in supplying the goods and services required by modern technology.

Completing the one-year program provides you with eligibility for membership in the Association of Science and Engineering Technology after two years of suitable industrial experience.

To successfully complete this program you must:
• Attain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
• Complete the program with no failures or incompletes in the required courses.

  Transfer

Medicine Hat College
Medicine Hat College CADD students may transfer into the second year of the CADD Technical Illustration program. If you have an equivalent first year from another institution you may transfer into the second year of the program.

Lethbridge College or SAIT Polytechnic
You have the option of transferring to the Engineering Drafting and Design program.
