Certifications

While you are pursuing your education, you have the opportunity to obtain several industry-based certifications. These certifications will allow you to gain knowledge and skills that will assist you in your career development as a graduate of the program.

Six certifications are offered as part of the curriculum in courses that you will take in your first two years:

  • Bronze Medallion (Canadian Red Cross)
  • Leave-No-Trace Trainer (LNT Center for Outdoor Ethics)
  • Certified Interpretive Guide (National Association for Interpretation)
  • Paddling Certification - either kayaking or canoeing
  • Avalanche Skills Training Level I (Canadian Avalanche Association)
  • Green Check GPS (Canadian Ecology Centre)

Wilderness and Remote First Aid is also offered (and required) at the end of your first year.

Costs of certifications will range from $40 to $300 per course and students are responsible for these costs.

There is a graduation requirement for certifications – four for the diploma and seven for the degree. You can choose a combination of certifications that suits your interests and career goals.
