Rattlers Hall of Fame Criteria
The Medicine Hat College Rattlers Hall of Fame was created to honour the very best in the history of Medicine Hat College athletics. The Medicine Hat College Rattlers Hall of Fame will serve to honour former student-athletes, coaches and administrators, as well as special supporters of the Athletic Department. A nominee will be considered only if she/he meets the criteria listed below.
Student-Athletes:
- Nominees must be a graduate of Medicine Hat College.
- The candidate shall be eligible to be nominated no earlier than five years after her/his graduation from Medicine Hat College
- The candidate must have been a varsity team member of the sport for at least 2 years in which she/he is being nominated.
- The candidate must have made a positive impact to the team(s) for which she/he played, including demonstrated athletic achievement, exemplary leadership qualities and character, and/or a significant contribution to the community.
- An honouree may be inducted posthumously.
Coach/Administrator:
- Nominees must have coached or been a staff member for at least five years at Medicine Hat College.
- The nominee shall have demonstrated an ability to enhance the athletic experience of the student-athlete, while serving as a positive role model through exemplary leadership and character.
- An honouree may be inducted posthumously.
Friends of Athletics:
- A nominee need not be a graduate or former employee of Medicine Hat College
- Strong consideration will be given to those nominees who have enhanced the experience of student-athletes at Medicine Hat College through their support. The candidate shall have volunteered their time, expertise or resources for a minimum of five years.
- An honouree may be inducted posthumously.
Team Criteria:
- Nominees must be successful teams who have reached conference and national recognition.
- Teams must have had varsity status at the time they were in play.
- Teams will be considered after a minimum of 5 years has elapsed from the last date of play for their nominated season.
To be approved for induction, the candidate must have a majority of the votes from the Selection Committee. The Athletic Director will be responsible for striking the committee when a nomination has been submitted. The Selection Committee will be comprised of the following 7 individuals:
- Medicine Hat College President (or designate)
- Athletic Director
- Medicine Hat College Rattlers Booster Club President
- Medicine Hat College Representative (non-Athletic)
- 3 Varsity Coaches
As fixed members of the Selection Committee, the Medicine Hat College President, Athletic Director and Booster Club President are excluded from nominating individuals.
Any nominees not voted for induction into the Rattlers Hall of Fame during the year of her/his nomination will remain in consideration for one additional year following their nomination. After that time period, the candidate must be re-nominated for consideration. Following the first induction ceremony, no more than two individuals will be honoured annually. Nomination forms must be received by the Department of Athletics prior to December 1 in order to be considered for induction at the annual Athletics Awards Banquet each spring.
