Rattlers Women’s Basketball Announce 2010/11 Recruiting Class
28 April 2010

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers Women’s Basketball team is pleased to announce the commitments of Emilee Morehouse, Courtney Heinricks, Samantha Cunningham, Lexie Petrovich, Meagan Koroll, Erica Morlock and Brittany Stinsman to next year’s team. “We are very excited to add these student-athletes to the Rattlers family” said Head Coach Jason McLester
.

Coach McLester is very excited to add two dynamic local players to the Rattlers team for the fall. Samantha Cunningham will be joining the Rattlers after a very successful high school career at Medicine Hat High School. Samantha led her team in scoring at 16 points per game and more importantly led her team to the 4A Provincial Tournament. Samantha was also voted a 1st Team All-Star for the 4A Southern Alberta High School League. “We have watched Samantha grow over the last couple of years now and we believe her aggressive nature on defense and offense will serve her well at the next level” adds McLester. Samantha states “It's a dream come true that I am actually going to be a Rattler…I love that my parents and family will be able to see my games and I get to represent Medicine Hat which has always been my home.”

The Rattlers solidified their backcourt with the addition of Courtney Heinricks. Heinricks, a standout from Eagle Butte High School, comes to the Rattlers after two successful years with the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns. Heinricks brings tremendous leadership, basketball IQ, and an intense work ethic to the Rattlers. McLester adds “I was very excited to get the call that Courtney was looking to change academic routes and was interested in our College’s well-respected Nursing Program. She instantly makes us better. Having her and Tianna back together will make a dynamic backcourt, they will be exciting to watch!”

Meagan Koroll joins the Rattlers after spending some time playing basketball at the University of Saskatchewan. As a standout at Holy Cross High School in Saskatoon and Saskatchewan Provincial Team member Meagan accepted a position on the University of Saskatchewan Huskies team. After three years at U of S, Meagan has decided to take a different academic path that led her to MHC. Koroll adds “I chose MHC because I want to play the sport I love again as well as MHC allows me to do that with a coach who is passionate about the game along with a team I believe will be competitive every practice and every game.” McLester states “Meagan has been on our radar for a long time and we are very happy that she has chosen to become part of our team. She has the ability to play a number of positions and will be a tremendous asset to us on the floor and in the locker room.”

Brittany Stinsman comes to the Rattlers from a very strong 4A program, Strathcona Composite High School, in Edmonton. An All-City Award winner in Edmonton as well as the MVP of the Shooting Stars Game in Calgary, Brittany is a tremendous talent. Her leadership is her biggest asset as evidenced by the 2nd place finish by her Summer league team at the Las Vegas Main Event Tournament – the highest finish ever for a Canadian team. In the words of her high school coach Ron Hopkins “I think Brittany is the biggest recruit coming out of high school this year”. As to why Brittany chose Medicine Hat, Brittany replies “I love the atmosphere of the school and of Medicine Hat itself. I think it will be a great place to learn and live. I was also drawn in by the style of ball the team plays and how much heart they put into every game. It feels like an energizing setting to play in”. Adds McLester, “We are very excited to have Brittany come to Medicine Hat. Brittany was very highly recruited, not only in the ACAC but also by schools in the US. Above all, Brittany is a winner and we know that she will make a tremendous Rattler”.

Emilee Morehouse joins the Rattlers after a year running track at the University of Mary in North Dakota. Emilee was a highly decorated dual sport athlete from Glasgow High School in Glasgow, Montana. Excelling at both sports Emilee fielded offers for both and eventually accepted a track scholarship. Her passion and love for basketball never waned and she has decided to come back to basketball and play for the Rattlers. Emilee was 1st team all-conference as a sophomore, junior and senior. She was also Class 'B' All-State as a junior and senior. According to her Glasgow High School Coach Willie Thibault “She has the ability to drain the three or take it to the paint. She is very aggressive - which will be well suited to the college game. The thing that stands out most is the fact that you will always get 100% - 100% of the time from her.” According to Coach McLester “We recruited Emilee heavily out of high school and were disappointed when she made a decision to go elsewhere. The school, team and community must have made a great impression on her as she has found her way to the college. Emilee is a tremendous athlete who instantly makes our team better. She will flourish in our up-tempo style and will be a legitimate scorer in our league”.

Lexie Petrovich joins the Rattlers from a very well respected program in Regina. This Sheldon-Williams Collegiate graduate is a Saskatchewan Centre for Performance athlete as well as a Team Saskatchewan member in the Western Canada Games. Her team has played at the highest level in Saskatchewan (Provincial Silver Medalists) and Western Canada, as evidenced by their 2nd place finish in the Victoria, BC. PAA City Tournament in which she was named an All-Star. Coach McLester adds “Lexie has a tremendous work ethic and impressed all of the coaches at our Identification camp. She can defend, score, set screens, and will flourish in an up tempo style of play. She was one of the best players at camp. She is everything we are looking for in a Rattlers athlete”.

Erica Morlock joins the Rattlers after a very successful high school career at J.C. Charyk High School in Hanna, Alberta. Erica adds her name to a very strong list of players to join the Rattlers from the Hanna program, names like Cori Jones, Mallory Jones, and Robyn Morlock
. “Coach Haines is one of the top coaches at any level in Alberta and we know when we get an athlete from his program that they will work extremely hard and possess tremendous skill” adds McLester. While Erica is the younger sister to Robyn Morlock
, a returning 3rd year player for the Rattlers, Erica has not rested on her name. Erica led an extremely successful senior campaign for her team as they won a number of tournaments. In those tournaments Erica garnered numerous MVP awards. More importantly, Erica kept her team in the top 5 of the ASAA 2A Rankings for the entire season. McLester states “We have had Erica at our camps for a number of years now and have watched her grow into the tremendous force she has become. We know it will only be a matter of time before Erica will be a strong part of the Rattlers program”.
