NEW STUDENT EMAIL SERVICE - THE SWITCH IS ON!

In the months of March, April and May, 2010, MHC will transition students from our current “@student.mhc.ab.ca” email system to a new Gmail (Google Mail) email system “@mymhc.ca".

Why?

Over 7 gigs of email storage space per email account (and this amount is growing)
Free access to Google docs and other select Google services
The new @mymhc.ca address can be kept indefinitely after leaving the college
Access over the web, and through most smartphones
A simpler, easier to remember and type, email address “username@mymhc.ca”

What do you need to know?

If you have a current @student.mhc.ab.ca account you will have a new @mymhc.ca email account waiting for you on March 1, 2010.
In most cases your username will be the same as you current username. For example joe.canuck@student.mhc.ab.cawill become joe.canuck@mymhc.ca
Your initial password on the new system will be the last 4 digits of your MHC Student Identification Number followed by the first three letters of your last name, the first letter capitalized.

For example:
Cindy Canuck with student ID 202005858 would sign in like this:

User Name: Cindy.Canuck (don't add @mymhc.ca in your login)
Password: 5858Can

The first time you use the @mymhc.ca service you will be asked to create a new password.
For the months of March and April your @student.mhc.ab.ca account will remain operational. This will give you time to forward any email you want to keep to your new account, and move contacts into the new system.
On May 1, 2010 the @student.mhc.ab.ca system will be permanently shut down.
If you have courses in MHC’s Blackboard system your email address will be updated so that instructors using the system can contact you.

How do you get to the new service?
After March 1, 2010 go directly to the webpage http://mail.google.com/a/mymhc.ca or follow the link to Webmail on the MHC website.
