Conservatory of Music & Dance

Academy Program

The Medicine Hat College Conservatory Academy Program is an intensive and comprehensive musical education for serious musicians studying strings, piano and voice. It can include weekly private lessons, chamber music, orchestra, performance classes, accompaniment, theory and masterclasses.

Many academy students have won provincial, national and international competitions as well as acceptance to major schools and summer programs. The Academy Program is a scholarship program with funds generously donated by The Medicine Hat Symphonic Society.

Academy Orchestra
The Academy Orchestra is an auditioned orchestra within the Conservatory’s Academy Program. In addition to performing at community recitals and the annual Concerto Competition, the Academy Orchestra collaborates regularly with other conservatory ensembles and guest artists. The orchestra rehearses weekly.

Chamber Music
Chamber music is a central component at the Conservatory. Each year students are assigned groups and work on chamber works from standard and contemporary chamber repertoires. Students receive weekly coaching from a conservatory instructor and are required to rehearse between one and two house weekly.
