Katie-Anne Nemeth

Choral, Voice

Mezzo-soprano Katie-Anne Nemeth holds both a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Lethbridge and the University of Ottawa. She also has a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Ottawa. Prior to attending university, Katie-Anne completed her Grade 9 Piano and Grade 8 voice examinations through the Royal Conservatory of Music.

Katie-Anne recently moved to Medicine Hat from Thompson, Manitoba where she taught Grade 7-12 Choral Music from 2014-2018 and directed choirs as large as 90 singers. It was there she created her own choral music curriculum for both regular and modified programming and implemented a music curriculum for students with exceptionalities. She also established a choral program built on musical literacy, skill and commitment from the students involved. Katie-Anne’s teaching philosophy has been centered around creating a community within the choral ensemble where students feel welcome, respected, and safe to explore their vocal instruments together. In addition to proper vocal technique, Katie-Anne’s approach to teaching voice has students exploring the anatomy of their vocal instrument and the pedagogy behind healthy singing.

Throughout her BMus, Katie-Anne performed a number of leading roles in operas such as Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief, Amahl and the Night Visitors, Haydn’s La Cantarina, Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites, and Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. She has also been involved in a number of musical theatre productions in her hometown of Uxbridge, Ontario including Grease, Footloose, The Wiz, Pirates of Penzance, and Oklahoma! Although her training is predominantly centered in classical music, Katie-Anne has performed and taught a wide variety of genres including musical theatre, pop, jazz and funk. Katie-Anne loves learning and teaching music in new languages and has taught a wide array of repertoire in multiple languages including Icelandic, Hebrew, Haitian-Creole, Japanese, Zulu, Swahili, Cree, Ojibwe, French, Spanish, Italian, German and Latin. With over 10 years of teaching experience, Katie-Anne has worked with students of all ages and levels of musical ability and welcomes new students to her studio!
