Project Management Extension Certificate

About This Program

 This is a non-credit program offered on a part-time basis. To earn this certificate you must complete seven courses, plus the final assessment. These courses allow you to develop your skills in a safe environment and provide you with numerous practical tools and techniques that you can begin using immediately to create successful outcomes.

The Skills courses can be taken individually but are most effective when taken together to build on the concepts.

Project Management: Overview & Integration (CA 0040)
(3 Days)

This is an introductory course to project management. It examines all the fundamental project management processes and knowledge areas as documented in A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) – Sixth Edition. Discover basic terminology of project management, define and understand the fundamental framework of the PMBOK guide by discussing the key processes groups and knowledge areas. Explore Integration Management processes such the development of the Project Charter, Project Management Plan, and what it means to Direct and Manage Project Work, Monitor and Control Project Work, Perform Integrated Change Control, and Close Project or Phase. Analyze the profession of the project manager, and how it’s impacted by Project Management Institute (PMI).

Project Management: Schedule and Cost Management (CA 0041)
This course uses an assigned case study to illustrate application of the key Time and Cost processes described in the PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition. The Time Management processes covered include Plan Schedule Management, Define Activities, Sequence Activities, Estimate Activity Resources, Estimate Activity Durations, Develop Schedule and Control Schedule. The Cost Management processes covered include Plan Cost Management, Estimate Costs, Determine Budget, and Control Costs.

Project Management: Scope & Quality (CA 0042)
(2 Days)

This course uses a case study to illustrate application of the key Integration and Quality processes described in the PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition. The Scope Management processes covered include Plan Scope Management, Collect Requirements, Define Scope, Create WBS, Validate Scope, and Control Scope. The Project Quality Management processes covered include Plan Quality Management, Control Quality, and Manage Quality.

Project Management: Leadership & Project Resource Management (CA 0043)
(2 Days)

This course uses a case study to illustrate application of the key Project Resource Management processes described in the PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition. This course will also examine the core competencies of an effective leader; it will also allow you to discover your leadership style, and how to effectively apply it in project management. The Project Resource Management processes covered include Plan Resource Management, Acquire Project Team, Develop Project Team, Manage Project Team and Control Resources.

Project Management: Risk and Procurement (CA 0044)
(2 Days)

This course uses an assigned case study to illustrate application of the key Risk and Procurement processes described in the PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition. The Risk Management processes covered include Plan Risk Management, Identify Risks, Perform Qualitative Risk Analysis, Perform Quantitative Risk Analysis, Plan Risk Responses, and Monitor Risks. The Procurement Management processes covered include Plan Procurement Management, Conduct Procurements, Control Procurements, and Close Procurements.

Project Management: Stakeholder & Communication Management (CA 0045)
(2 Days)

This course group uses a case study to illustrate application of the key Stakeholder and Communication Management processes described in the PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition. The Stakeholder Management processes covered include Identify Stakeholders, Plan Stakeholder Engagement, Manage Stakeholder Engagement, and Monitor Stakeholder Engagement. The Project Communications processes covered include Plan Communications Management, Manage Communications, and Monitor Communications.

Project Management: The Business of Project Management (CA 0046)
(1 Day)

The Business of Project Management course focuses on the strategic and business Knowledge aspects of project management. Examine the role of the project manager in relation to the PMI Talent Triangle. Understand the relationship between Projects, Programs, and Portfolios in the context of Project Management. Recognize the concept of transformational change within an organization, and where project management plays a part. This course also identifies the benefits of a Project Management Office (PMO).

Project Management - Final Assessment Paper
Apply the project management principles and practices you have acquired either through the seven classroom-based courses or the three online modules to a real-life project. Students should register for the Final Assessment Paper in the semester immediately following completion of their last course.

Program Completion
Upon successful completion of this program, you will receive a Mount Royal University certificate.  To earn this certificate you must complete seven courses (a total of 103 hours) plus the Final Assessment with a minimum of 75% attendance and active participation in each course.

Project Management - Final Assessment Paper
You must register with Mount Royal University to complete your Final Assessment Paper. The cost to complete the assessment is approximately $420 + GST.    

To earn this certificate you must complete seven core courses (a total of 103 hours) plus the Final Assessment.
