MICRO-CREDENTIAL

About this Program

Earn a Certificate of Achievement in UAV Drone Advanced Pilot Training.

The UAV Drone Advanced Pilot Training is an exciting opportunity to take the first steps into this emerging field of technology.  Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) are becoming ubiquitous with new applications being continually discovered.  This program will prepare students to challenge the Transport Canada exams and flight review to receive their Pilot Certificate – Basic Operations, and Pilot Certificate – Advanced.  Students will also be introduced to how drones are being used in various industries such as cinematography/videography, surveying/geomatics, agriculture, real estate and construction.  Work integrated learning (WIL) opportunity is provided where students will work along side industry professionals who are using drones in their fields of practice.

Upon successful completion of the micro-credential program, the students will be able to:

  • Challenge the Transport Canada Small Basic Exam to receive their Pilot Certificate – Basic Operations.
  • Challenge the Transport Canada Small Advanced Exam for advanced operations and the flight review required to apply for the Transport Canada Pilot Certificate - Advanced.
  • Understand the laws and regulations governing the operation of RPAS in Canada.
  • Understand the essentials of drone flight operations.
  • Understand the essentials of drone system components and technology.
  • Describe industry applications for drones and UAVs.

This course will introduce students to Canadian regulations surrounding the use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) - aka. Drones or UAVs (Unmanned Air Vehicles). Focus will be on RPAS with a maximum takeoff weight between 250 grams up to and including 25 kg and within visual line of sight as per Transport Canada’s Canadian Aviation Regulations, Part IX regulatory framework. The course will prepare students to take and pass Transport Canada’s Small Basic RPAS exam. After successful completion of the course, students should be able to: Describe and apply the rules and regulations in Canada surrounding flying Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) Identify different types of RPAS and explain the benefits of each Identify location, airspace and potential hazards for a potential flight area to accurately determine whether a flight can proceed and use this knowledge to create an accurate site survey Assess weather conditions to ensure compliance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations and ensure the safety of all flights Create checklists for pre- and post-flight planning as well as emergency response Effectively manage a basic RPAS mission and crew
