Parking Services

MHC enforces a pay parking policy for all vehicles parked on the Medicine Hat campus. While the college strives to provide as many parking spaces as possible, there are times when demand exceeds availability. Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note:
  • During times of construction, maintenance and special events, it may be necessary to reduce parking availability.
  • Student residence parking passes are not valid in parking lots on campus.
  • Security must be notified if you wish to park on campus for extended periods of time or overnight.
  • Bicycle parking is restricted to the racks provided. Bike storage lockers are available through Facility Operations. For more information click here.
Your personal information (name, phone number, email address) is collected under the authority of section 33(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.  This information will be used for the purpose of managing the parking permit and enforcement activities only. For inquiries about the collection and use of this information, contact the FOIP Coordinator.

Limitation of Liability

Any motor vehicle parked, operated or driven on the campus shall be solely at the risk of the owner and operator. MHC shall not be liable for any damages to any motor vehicle, operator or occupant or any other person. To limit you risk of loss, lock your vehicle at all times and don't leave valuables in your vehicle.

Parking Options

Please note that you no longer have to register online and are asked to go directly to The Bookstore to purchase your pass. Fees for these permits are as follows:

Open Parking

All lots on campus are “Open” except for the two lots designated as “Plug-in” Please see the map for details.  Open permits can be purchased monthly or annually.

  • Monthly - $20 + GST - Valid from the first day of the month purchased to the end of the final month purchased i.e Sept 1 to Sept 31. If you require a partial month, daily passes are for sale in the college bookstore.
  • Annual - $200 + GST (July 1 to June 30 )

Plug-In Parking

There are three designated plug-in areas: South lot, E lot, and some spaces in the Cultural Centre lot. These lots have electrical plug-ins. Plug-in permits are only for use in Plug-in designated lots only. MHC is committed to energy conservation; the parking lots are subject to load shedding and cycling which means power is not on all day. These permits are valid only in the designated lots.

  • Year - $300+ GST (July 1 to June 30)

“Pay and Display” Parking

Available to anyone driving on campus without a permit and will only allow parking in Open parking lots. These daily permits are available through the permit dispensers located on parking lots around campus. The permit dispensers accept  cash only and do not dispense change. If a dispenser is malfunctioning, please contact security immediately at 529-3911. Daily permits are also for sale in the college bookstore. 

  • Daily parking is $4 per day. Please note, hourly parking is NOT available at MHC.

Residence Parking

Payment for residence parking permits is made at Student Services. These permits are available to students living in residence and entitle you to a reserved stall in residence parking lots only. Students wishing to park in any other lot(s) are required to purchase an appropriate permit.

Parking for People with Disabilities

MHC offers parking spaces restricted for people with physical disabilities. Your vehicle will require a valid Alberta Motor Vehicle Handicap Permit and a valid Medicine Hat College permit to park in these stalls. “Pay and Display” ticket meters nearest these stalls have barrier-free access.

Complimentary Parking

Passes are available for those individuals providing services to the college at no charge or at a reduced rate (i.e. volunteers, conference speakers). Passes must be requested by the department managing the service to be provided. Passes are issued for a maximum period of 10 business days. Please contact security for questions. Drop-off zones

The 20 min drop-off zone is designed to allow users to drop items off at the college. It is strictly enforced as are the drop-off only areas  near the front of the College.


Purchasing Your Parking Permit

Parking permits are available for purchase in the college bookstore. Please note that you no longer have to register online. 

  • There are no refunds for lost or stolen permits.
  • Lost or stolen permits must be reported to security immediately.
  • Defaced or altered permits are not valid.
  • Permit returns- If 50% or more of the time remaining on your permit is available, then 50% of the cost can be refunded. All refunds are subject to a $10 plus GST administration fee.

Display Your Permit

To be valid, parking permits must be located on the rear view mirror and visible from the front of the vehicle, or face up on the driver’s side of the dashboard. Pay and Display permits must be face up on the driver’s side of the dashboard, and be fully visible. Failure to display a permit will result in a parking ticket. It is your responsibility to move your permit between vehicles.


Forget Your Permit?

If you have forgotten your parking permit, please visit the security office immediately upon your arrival to request a free day pass and avoid getting a parking ticket.  Security will require your license plate number along with a description of your vehicle to verify that you have a valid permit.

Please note, this does not apply to daily permits.


If You Receive a Ticket

There are three options:

  1. Pay the ticket. You may use the drop-box beside duplicating (F104) or pay online, or mail your payment to Wilpark Canada.

  2. Appeal the ticket. The appeals process is outlined here, or drop in at the security office between 8 a.m. and noon, Monday - Friday. 
  3. Ignore the ticket. All unpaid tickets will be send to collections, and the accumulation of any unpaid parking tickets in collections or an accumulations of 3 or more tickets may result in removal of the vehicle from college grounds.

Parking Hours

Permit parking regulations are in effect year round. The hours of enforcement are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays and days of college closure.

Parking enforcement is conducted by Campus Security and all parking enforcement issues should be referred to the security office.
