Check Your Browser

Follow these settings for optimal Blackboard performance.

MHC recommends using the following web browsers when accessing Blackboard:

Please ensure your web browser is set to the following specifications:

 

  • Your screen resolution is at least 1280 X 1024.
    Minimum resolution required to use Blackboard is 800 X 600
  • Your browser is set to allow cookies.
    Cookies are used to store certain information about your browser on your local computer or in RAM for the current session. If you are using a public computer, you should consider clearing browser cookies and cache before walking away.
  • You have the Java Runtime Environment installed.
    The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is the package of software that must be installed on a machine in order to run Java applications. It is needed for some features of Blackboard. The latest version can be downloaded at: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
  • You have Macromedia Flash installed.
    Flash enables content authors to provide dynamic and interactive web content. You will need flash player to take advantage of these enhancements. You can download the latest version at: http://www.macromedia.com/software/flashplayer/
  • You have popups allowed.
    Some sites require that your browser be capable of opening JavaScript pop-up windows. While using Blackboard, please disable your pop-up blocker or consult your documentation on how to enable pop-ups for the mhc.ab.ca domain.
 

Common File Types

Many course documents in Blackboard are in Adobe PDF or Microsoft Office format. Some combinations of Windows/Office service packs and browser security settings may cause problems accessing these files. To see if you are affected, try downloading these sample files:
