Chris Kessler, Guitar, Bass, Ukulele & Percussion Instructor
Chris is local multi-instrumentalist that has been performing for over 25 years. Originally learning under Deborah Mann before taking lessons with Dan Howard of the United Conservatory of Music, Chris has had an interest in all genres of music from an early age.Since 2009 Chris has played extensively throughout Alberta as well as toured western and eastern Canada with several acts. In 2010 Chris was involved in founding Terrific Kid's Artist Collective- a group of friends and musicians alike that focused on promoting local bands as well as touring artists. Through that venture- Chris has also been involved in raising money for the Medicine Hat Woman's shelter and other organizations.
Chris has also been involved in extensive recording projects- and has recorded several albums of original music with a variety of acts. Chris has a strong knowledge of writing, recording, and performance aspects of most musical genres which he hopes to also impart with his students.
In 2018 Chris began teaching at the Academy of Music and Performance where he remained for 4 years, instructing contemporary Guitar, Bass, Ukulele, and Drums. Chris has a unique take on teaching, and utilizes a skillful approach in finding ways to allow students to perform the music they love while gaining technical and ear training related ability.
Chris focuses on imparting students with appropriate technical and playing skills through repetition and muscle memory. Chris also values contemporary performance- and will encourage your child from an early age to understand music as a serious performing art, while also discussing some of the cultural and social implications of being a musician in 2023.
