MHC welcomes new board member

Medicine Hat College (MHC) is pleased to welcome Ebenezer Sakyi Asare to its Board of Governors, and congratulate Yusuf Mohammed in his new role as vice-chair.

As a pharmacist and business owner, Asare is an active citizen in the City of Brooks and surrounding County of Newell. He brings a wealth of experience and fresh perspective to the board member position and is passionate about leadership, youth mentorship and helping people find success in all their endeavors.

Asare owns two Shoppers Drug Mart locations in Brooks and Medicine Hat, and leads a team operating a pharmacist-led walk-in clinic, a relatively new concept in Alberta that allows patients to be assessed and sometimes treated without seeing a doctor. He has also served as an instructor for the Bredin Centre for learning, supporting international pharmacy graduates as they challenge the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada exams. Prior to moving to Canada, Asare was involved with product development and regulatory affairs within Ghana’s pharmaceutical industry.

Now he’s ready to share his experiences and give back in a new way.

“To me, being a member of the board at MHC is an opportunity to add the voice and perspective of many within the Brooks and Medicine Hat communities to ensure we offer a formidable and comparable education,” says Asare.

MHC board chair, Sarah MacKenzie, is excited to welcome Asare to the team.

“Eben brings depth of knowledge to our board, along with valuable connections to the Brooks region. We are grateful for his willingness to serve and look forward to his participation as we work together to move MHC forward,” says MacKenzie.

She also notes another change to the board, which saw Yusuf Mohammed move into the role of vice-chair in March 2023.

“Yusuf has served the college well for the past three years and I’m confident of his continued commitment as vice-chair. We extend a thank you to our previous vice-chair, Luke Day, for his many contributions to the institution.”
