Adapt Mobility donates equipment to better support MHC students
Students at Medicine Hat College (MHC) are better supported in the classroom, thanks to a generous donation from a local medical equipment business. Over $7,500 in wheelchairs, walkers, and power scooters were donated to the service dog and canine studies management program by Adapt Mobility, providing the opportunity for students to socialize their dogs to various mobility aids.Having a safe, controlled place in which the dogs can be trained is beneficial, while also helping students build empathy for their future clients, explains Marissa Jordan, program coordinator and instructor for the program.
“As a new program, we are working on building connections in the community, and the generous donation from Adapt Mobility helps us get that important work done. We are excited to continue to build community engagement, and help people understand how to interact with service dogs in the community.”
Jordan adds that those who depend on service dogs need them to be well-socialized, especially when accessing public spaces. The donation will aid in this training and help them become welcomed in the community.
As a community-oriented company, the donation is being given to serve the community in a new way, says Trevor Eichelbaum, owner and operator of Adapt Mobility. He adds that the program helps to create more knowledge, understanding, and appreciation for the population that Adapt Mobility serves.
“Many of our clients use service dogs, and the benefit of having these animals is prevalent. It is excellent to see this avenue of client support being extended to the point where many more of our clients will be able to utilize such an instrumental asset to their daily lives.”
