New for 2023! Hockey team hits the ice
A new sport is officially part the roster this year with the addition of the Rattlers Women’s Hockey team. Playing out of the Moose Recreation Centre, these hockey girls look to surprise a few teams in their inaugural season and intend to leave an early impression that they are not going to be your typical new kids on the block. With plenty of new recruits and some returnees from last year’s exhibition season, the team is poised to take a big step in its first year. Puck drop on the inaugural season is Oct. 7 at 7:45 p.m. against NAIT.

Soccer teams are first to kick off the Rattlers season in a back-to-back home opener weekend with the Olds College Broncos coming to town on Sept. 9 (Women 2:00 p.m. / Men 4:00 p.m.) and the Red Deer Kings and Queens the following day (Women 12:00 p.m. / Men 2:00 p.m.). The Futsal season now includes two regional tournaments (Jan. 12-13 & Feb. 9-10) with the top three teams going to Conference Championships Mar. 8-10, 2024.

The following weekend, Medicine Hat plays host to the rest of the conference at the South Regional Championship hosted at Desert Blume Golf Course. The Conference Championship goes Sept. 24-26 at Alberta Springs Golf Resort in Red Deer County. Top golfers and teams will move on to the National Championships hosted by Champlain St. Lawrence in Québec City Oct. 16-20.

Cross Country Running hits the trails Sept. 9
Runners will start their season in Edmonton at Concordia University then head to Calgary the following weekend for a race hosted by SAIT. On Sept. 30, runners get an early look at the course that is going to be used at Conference Championships as Lethbridge College will be hosting the season’s third event. The fourth and final Grand Prix of the season will be at Augustana University College in Camrose on Oct. 14.

The team then returns to Lethbridge for the Conference Championships on Oct. 28 and hopefully earn a spot to the CCAA National Championships hosted by Dalhousie Agricultural Campus in Truro, Nova Scotia on Nov. 10-11.

The Indoor Track season gets underway Jan. 27 at Concordia University and will continue with an event in Re Deer on Feb. 10 and the Conference Championships at the University of Alberta on Mar. 16, which will bring an end to the running season.

Basketball gets the ball rolling Oct. 14
The basketball season tips off Oct. 14 with the home opener against the Ambrose Lions (Women 6:00 p.m. / Men 8:00 p.m.) with another 19 games (10 home, 9 away) to follow during the season. The men’s team looks to rebound off a loss in the play-in game to end the year, while the women continue the rebuilding process and take steps towards competing for a playoff spot. New this year is a new playoff format where the top team remaining after the first weekend of playoffs in the north for women and south for men will host the Final Four Championship.

Volleyball set to start in the Snake Pit Nov. 3
First serves at home for the volleyball teams don’t come until Nov. 3 against Keyano College (Women 6:00 p.m. / Men 8:00 p.m.) after they have already had their bye week and an away weekend to face Briercrest. The women are looking to build off their play-in game loss this past season and get into the Conference Championships hosted by Lethbridge College Feb. 22-24. Under new head coach, Trever Turner, the men have their sights set on a jump in the standings and a spot at the Conference Championships at Olds College Feb. 22-24, 2024. The top four teams from the north and south divisions in the men’s and women’s sides qualify for those championships.
