Foundations of Human Resources Series

Offered in collaboration with Mount Royal University
Medicine Hat College is pleased to deliver the Foundations of Human Resources Series in partnership with Mount Royal University (MRU). This Course Series will provide you with the foundation needed to help you build a productive workplace in which employees are energized and engaged.
Employers: This program is eligible for the Canada-Alberta Job Grant, which reimburses two-thirds of your employee's training costs.
About This Program
This is a non-credit program offered on a part-time basis. The courses can be taken individually but are most effective when taken together to build on the concepts.
Upon successful completion of the course series, participants will receive a personalized Certificate of Completion for the Series from Medicine Hat College. Participants can also apply the courses to MRU’s Human Resource Management Extension Certificate.
The MRU Certificate program has been pre-approved for CPD hours with Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) Alberta and is eligible towards Blue Seal Certification.

Program Overview
These courses allow you to develop your skills in a safe environment and provide you with numerous practical tools and techniques that you can begin using immediately to create successful outcomes. Gain a fundamental overview of human resources management; explore the proven technique of behavioural interviewing; and develop solid skills in building employee engagement through strong relationships with individuals and groups of employees.

Series Price: $1349 + GST
Individual Course price: $499+GST
Human Resources Basics (15 hours; 2 days)
Gain a fundamental overview of human resources management. Acquire an appreciation and basic comprehension of legislation affecting employees, knowledge regarding the recruitment/selection process, training and development, and managing day-to-day performance.Note: This course is recommended for students with little to no HR experience.
Interviewing Strategies (15 hours; 2 days)
Explore the proven technique of behavioural interviewing through interactive activities such as employment interviews, telephone screening, and panel and video interviews. Learn how to recruit candidates and make effective hiring decisions through reviewing online applications and resumes. Evaluate interview methods and hiring techniques. Understand the importance of checking education, criminal and employment references.
Employee Engagement (15 hours; 2 days)
Managers and supervisors must learn to measure their workplace’s performance on the dimensions that create a great workplace and strive for continuous improvement. Solid skills in building employee engagement through strong relationships with individuals and groups of employees are essential. Be introduced to a “Communications Intentions Model” designed to enhance managers’ and supervisors’ ability to build relationships.

Program Completion
