International Students

Please be aware that international applications must be 18 years of age or older by the start date of their program of application.

The following programs require an interview and paper application and are closed to online applications. Please contact IntEd@mhc.ab.ca to apply for:

• University Transfer: Kinesiology

Please ensure all information entered in the application (e.g. address, birthdate) is correct as this information will be used to issue documentation required for your study permit application and there is a charge for any letters which need to be reissued.

These application instructions apply for the Fall 2025 intake and later intakes. For earlier intakes please connect with IntEd@mhc.ab.ca.

If you completed education outside of Canada, you must submit official documents and credentials from that education to determine if you are admissible to Medicine Hat College.

The documents required to support international student applications include: official transcripts (high school and post-secondary, if attended) sent directly by the school, examination board, or department of education, admit/scratch cards to verify transcript information if applicable, a passport copy, and English-language proficiency (ELP) results (if required).

Electronic documents sent directly by the school or department of education, admit cards, and ELP results can be directed to admissions@mhc.ab.ca.

Passport copies can be sent to registration@mhc.ab.ca.

Please do not send original documents to MHC, as we cannot return them.

Submit official documents in the official language of issue. If the language of issue is not English, provide an acceptable English translation, which should:

• Be a literal, word-for-word translation presented in the same order of information and format as the original.
• Not leave any information out, be altered, or have information added. This means that all grades, comments, dates, and discussion must be included.
• Convey the information and format of the original document.
• Have an appropriate corresponding original language document on file in the official language via the proper issuing authority.

Applicants may be asked at any stage in the application process to attend a virtual meeting with college staff to confirm details of their application. An applicant may be refused admission at any time if it is determined they do not have a reasonable chance to secure a study permit. Please contact info@mhc.ab.ca with any questions.

Once accepted, you will receive your Letter of Offer to your MHC email from MyCreds. To secure a seat in your program, please pay, within 21 days, the non-refundable $5000 deposit and tuition installment of $10,000 ($15,000 total). The $10,000 tuition installment is refundable if you withdraw from your program at MHC prior to the drop deadline. The $5000 deposit is refundable only with proof of study permit refusal.

It is critical that you review your acceptance letter and carefully read all email communications from the College to ensure you meet MHC and program admission and registration deadlines and requirements, including first tuition installment payment and providing proof of study permit.

When all requirements are met and your deposit and tuition installment are received by MHC, you will receive first your Study Permit Acceptance Letter (SPAL), then your Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) directly to your MHC email. These documents will be required for your study permit application. Please see information here on applying for a study permit for entry to Canada as an international student.

Upon paying your deposit and first tuition installment, you’ll receive onboarding information and an onboarding checklist from our International Education office. Please review carefully as this document provides important information to prepare for your study in Canada and at MHC.

We ask you to arrive one week before classes begin so that you may attend orientation sessions, familiarize yourself with your new accommodations, get to know your way around campus and the city, and open a bank account (if necessary).

Students have three options for accommodation. Please review the options and application requirements (where applicable) and contact iss@mhc.ab.ca with any questions.

MHC provides services designed specifically to assist international students with life both on and off-campus. From pre-arrival to graduation, the programs and services offered will help students to integrate into the community and get involved in campus life. Furthermore, Medicine Hat College has mandatory health insurance for all its international students. The insurance provider is StudyInsured. Students are automatically enrolled in StudyInsured for semesters they are registered in classes at Medicine Hat College. It is important to confirm your arrival date with the International Education department so that coverage begins when you arrive in Canada.
