Medicine Hat College invites applications for program development experts for the School of Heath and Community Services. The SME will work in collaboration with the Dean, the Coordinator of the Addictions Counselling program, the Chair, and the Centre for Innovation and Teaching Excellence (CITE) team. This project is to be completed by June 30, 2026.
Course to be developed: ADDC 180 – Indigenous Ways of Healing Addictions
A little about the role:
Medicine Hat College is looking for an Indigenous subject matter expert who has knowledge of and experience working with Indigenous individuals recovering from addiction. ADDC 180 presents the history of addictions for Indigenous peoples through the lens of colonialism and residential schools. Indigenous concepts, healing, and ceremony relate to multigenerational trauma in a course that focuses on traditional ways and emerging methods for healing addictions in Indigenous communities.Details:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Addictions Counselling or related field, such as Social Work. Master’s degree is preferred.
- At Minimum 5 years of experience working with Indigenous populations and/or addictions. Indigenous background preferred.
- Demonstrate competent level of knowledge for course material.
- Experience in teaching at a post-secondary level and with course/curriculum development is an asset.
- The ability to work collaboratively and make positive contributions as a team member.
- A commitment to student success.
Term of Contract: September 15, 2025 – June 30, 2026
Compensation: Up to maximum of $6000 upon completion of course development.
