Medicine Hat College is seeking a collaborative and people‑centred academic leader to serve as Dean of the School of Arts, Science and Education. A little about the role:
Reporting to the Vice President, Academic & Provost, the Dean is a member of both the Senior Academic Leadership Team (SALT) and the College’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT). Working collegially across the institution, the Dean contributes to setting academic direction and advancing the objectives of the College’s Academic Plan. A key focus of the role is ensuring programming remains responsive to regional needs and aligned with community and industry priorities, while maintaining academic quality and relevance for students. As the academic and administrative leader of the School, the Dean fosters a supportive, inclusive, and engaged environment where people feel valued and empowered to do their best work. Through open communication, sound judgment, and high emotional intelligence, the Dean works collaboratively with institutional leaders and faculty to establish priorities, manage resources responsibly, and strengthen partnerships that benefit students and the broader community.

The successful candidate will bring a combination of academic credibility, collaborative leadership experience, and a strong commitment to student and community success. Specifically, candidates will demonstrate:
- A graduate degree from a recognized university in a relevant discipline; a PhD is preferred.
- Postsecondary teaching experience, normally a minimum of five years.
- A record of scholarly or research activity.
- Progressive experience in postsecondary administration, with demonstrated effectiveness in academic leadership roles.
- Supervisory and leadership experience sufficient to lead and support a diverse academic team.
- Experience in program and curriculum development, review, and evaluation is considered an asset.
- Proven people‑centred leadership skills, including the ability to coach and develop others, foster engagement, and lead teams in a dynamic and complex environment.
- Sound planning, evaluation, policy, and financial acumen, with the ability to think strategically and translate plans into results.
- A demonstrated ability to identify and pursue opportunities and partnerships, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support institutional and student goals.
- An equivalent combination of education and relevant postsecondary experience may be considered.
Salary: $137,303 gross annually
