Medicine Hat College is inviting applications for Part-Time Temporary Health Care Aide (HCA) Program Instructors for the 2026–2027 academic year. The HCA Program is seeking qualified and dedicated instructors to support delivery of the Government of Alberta HCA Provincial Curriculum across theory, lab, simulation, and clinical learning environments.
A little about the role:
The primary responsibility of this position is to instruct and facilitate learning within the Health Care Aide (HCA) program. Supported by the program coordinator and/or practice lead, the instructor delivers instruction across classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings. The instructor models safe, ethical, and client-centred care aligned with provincial competencies and supports students in developing required knowledge, skills, and professional behaviours.
Responsibilities include direct instruction and supervision, assessment of student performance, and completion of evaluation documentation. The instructor collaborates with facility partners and/or program faculty to support student learning and address concerns as they arise. Additional expectations include maintaining accurate documentation related to attendance and progression, and upholding Medicine Hat College standards and regulatory requirements.
Teaching assignments are based on program needs, scheduling, and instructor expertise, and may vary from term to term.
Details:
• Hold an active, unrestricted practice permit with one of the following Alberta regulatory bodies:
o College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA)
o College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
o College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA)
• Have a minimum of one year (1,500 hours) of full-time clinical nursing or nursing education experience in Canada within the past three years
• Meet one of the following adult education qualification requirements:
o At least one year of adult teaching experience,
o A baccalaureate degree in education; or
o Completion of an adult teaching/learning education program.
Additional Certifications (currency required during times of clinical instruction)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification renewed annually
• Valid N95 mask fit test renewed every two years
