Community job fair connects jobseekers with local employers

For fourteen years, Medicine Hat College (MHC) has connected jobseekers to summer positions, internships, and permanent career opportunities at its annual Community Job Fair.

Returning on Wednesday, Jan. 21, community members and students are invited to drop in between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at the Medicine Hat campus and meet with recruiters.

“This event is designed to offer something for everyone,” says Shelly Drefs, career services assistant at MHC. “The organizations already registered represent a wide range of industries and it’s a great opportunity for attendees to get a good idea of the types of jobs they are qualified for in a more casual and low-stress environment.”

Jobseekers are encouraged to come prepared with questions and a willingness to network. Some employers may conduct on-the-spot interviews, while others will provide details about their hiring process and direct applicants to submit their resumes online.

“Networking is an important part of finding any job and the Community Job Fair is the perfect opportunity to make a great first impression,” adds Drefs. “Attendees should speak with as many exhibitors as possible and follow up afterward for the best chance of success.”

For students and alumni of MHC, representatives at MHC’s Career and Employment Centre are available by appointment for support with resumes and interview practice, helping them gain confidence within the job search process.

Drefs adds that while their exhibitor list is filling up quickly, organizations can still register prior to the event.
