STEM for a Day provides insight into MHC programming

An opportunity for exposure to programs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), Medicine Hat College (MHC) is partnering with CF Industries to present STEM for a Day from April 30 to May 2, 2024.

“CF Industries is excited to partner with the college for the second year in a row in support of STEM education,” says Andréa Hamilton, human resources advisor for CF. “This activity helps enhance the future workforce as we work together to create a sustainable and vibrant future for our community.”

Taking place at the Medicine Hat campus, regional high school students will be given the opportunity to explore the campus and labs, and be immersed in hands-on activities in the built environment engineering technology, power engineering technology, information technology and university transfer science programs.
Student recruitment and admissions coordinator, Landon Heilman, says the event last year introduced students to programs they may not have considered otherwise.

“In many cases, students have an idea of programs they can take after high school, but are unaware of programs that may align more with their interests. We look forward to helping students discover areas of study they may not have known were options for them, without this exposure.”

Featured activities in STEM for a Day’s past event included using architectural drafting programs, viewing organisms under a microscope, coding and flying drones, and taking tours through a fully functioning steam lab.
