Karen George, Instructor
Education & Credentials:
- Bachelor of Nursing, University of Lethbridge
Began teaching at MHC: 2022
Karen George brings more than two decades of nursing experience to her teaching role at Medicine Hat College. Her background includes acute care, emergency, labor and delivery, operating room, long-term care, and public health, with ongoing practice in rural nursing since 2002. These experiences provide a broad foundation that she draws on when working with students.
Karen’s teaching approach emphasizes creating a supportive and approachable environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and practicing their skills. She encourages steady growth by connecting theory to practice and helping students build confidence through repetition and feedback.
She teaches several courses in the Practical Nursing program and has a particular interest in Nursing Theory III, which introduces many core nursing skills. Watching students gradually develop their ability to care for patients and recognize changes in condition is one of the most meaningful aspects of her role. She values being part of a close-knit college community where collaboration among faculty and students contributes to a positive learning atmosphere.
Students can expect her classes to be clear, organized, and practical, with opportunities to learn through discussion and hands-on practice. Karen believes in lifelong learning and continues to look for ways to strengthen her teaching and clinical practice. She is also a certified Basic Life Support Instructor, a role she pursued to help both faculty and students gain and maintain their professional certifications.
Outside of work, she enjoys staying active by playing and refereeing volleyball, refereeing basketball, and spending time outdoors. A fun fact is that she lived and worked in Indonesia for 10 years, an experience that broadened her perspective on healthcare and education.
