I am a dedicated mental health nursing practitioner and educator based in Medicine Hat, recently joining the Faculty of Nursing at the Medicine Hat College. My teaching philosophy is grounded in trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and motivational interviewing—approaches I believe are essential for navigating the complexities of mental health practice. These frameworks guide both my clinical work and educational approach, helping learners cultivate empathy, resilience, and the skills needed to thrive in this unique discipline of nursing.
I value student autonomy and actively promote the pairing of experienced practitioners with novice nurses to bridge academic theory with clinical application. This strategy enhances critical thinking, fosters emotional belonging, and strengthens discipline-specific competencies.
As a mentor, I strive to lead with integrity, transparency, and respect. I create safe, inclusive spaces for dialogue, encourage independent decision-making, and welcome diverse perspectives. My goal is to support learners in identifying their strengths, embracing challenges, and engaging in lifelong learning.
