The Solar System
This is primarily a descriptive course aimed at non-science students where conceptual understanding will be stressed over strict mathematical derivation. The topics covered in this course include the historical development of the heliocentric model; the exploration of the solar system by spacecraft; the structure, atmosphere, and evolution of the planet Earth, the terrestrial and Jovian planets, and their moons; asteroids and Kuiper belt objects; the structure of the Sun; and the formation of the solar system. Extra solar planets and/or life in the universe may also be discussed.
NOTE: Students cannot receive credit for both ASTR 201 and ASTR 1101.
