Policing and Law Enforcement

This course examines historical development of law enforcement, as well as the modern operations of police forces in Canada. Students will develop a comprehension of the general structure and organization of police agencies as well as the duties and competencies required of police officers. Focus is placed on the current movement
in policing from the traditional, reactive style of law enforcement to the more proactive, community-based model demanded in an evolving Canadian society. Finally, complex topics such as legal authority and use of force will be emphasized.
