Medicine Hat College is welcoming applications for a Research Assistant for the “Revolution and Resurgence: Celebrating Feminist Publishing” project. This is a flexible contract position starting in July 2026 and ending December 31, 2026. You must be a current Medicine Hat College student in order to apply.
A little about the role:
“Revolution and Resurgence: Celebrating Feminist Publishing” is a special issue of the journal Atlantis: Critical Studies in Gender, Culture, and Social Justice co-edited by Dr. Jana Smith Elford (Medicine Hat College) and Dr. Michelle Meagher (Women’s and Gender Studies, University of Alberta). As a Research Assistant to the editors, you will assist the work of the editors and gain exposure to the academic publishing process. You will also gain experience in a mentorship-oriented interdisciplinary and inter-institutional collaborative research team.Details:
- A general interest in publishing and particularly in the history of feminist publishing.
- Ability to conduct research and write a literature review on the topic of feminist publishing with direction from the co-editors (excellent library research skills).
- Proficiency in preparing summaries of articles selected for publication (excellent reading and writing skills).
- Assist in the editing process, checking manuscripts for adherence to Atlantis’s style guide, general formatting, and citations (detail-oriented).
- Use an Open Journal System to track submissions, solicit reviews, and communicate with authors (strong communication and organizational skills).
- Work well independently as well as in a team environment with researchers across Canada.
- Preference will be given to a detail-oriented senior undergraduate student who can work independently.
Term of Appointment: July 22, 2026 to December 31, 2026
Hours: 6 hours per week; 147 hours for the term
Wage Rate: $18.00 per hour
