Medicine Hat College invites applicants for a part-time, temporary instructor for the Power Engineering Technology Diploma Program for the 2026-2027 academic year.
A little about the role:
The successful candidate will prepare and deliver Power Engineering instruction in both classroom and lab settings, while guiding students through hands-on training at the Cenovus Power Engineering Technology Centre, a state-of-the-art facility at the Medicine Hat campus. Responsibilities include adapting instruction to support student success, contributing to curriculum and program development, maintaining industry connections, and participating in departmental and college initiatives. This role requires a strong commitment to learners, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team-focused environment.
Block 1 (September – November)
POWE 162 – Electrical Theory
- Introduction to electricity and instrumentation
- Safety practices
- Materials and welding fundamentals
- Piping systems
Block 2 (December – February)
PLAB 117 – Industrial Steam Plant Operations Lab
- Operation of industrial steam plant equipment
POWE 167 – Maintenance, Water Treatment, Prime Movers & Building Systems
- Introduction to maintenance practices
- Water treatment fundamentals
- Prime movers and engines
- Auxiliary building systems
Block 3 (February – May)
POWE 153 – ASME Section I, Piping Design, Steam Traps, Valves & Actuators
- Industrial drawings and interpretation
- Code calculations
- Piping systems and design
- Steam traps, valves, and actuators
Details:
- First or Second-Class Power Engineering Certificate of competency valid in the Province of Alberta OR an equivalent combination of Third-Class Power Engineering Certificate and related industry experience may be considered.
- Diversified background of industrial experience.
- Training or instruction in a classroom setting would be a definite asset.
