Medicine Hat College invites applicants for a part-time, temporary instructor in our Information Technology Diploma program to teach ITEC 120: Applied Mathematics for the Fall 2026 term (September to December).
A little about the role:
ITEC 120 is a first-year, 4-credit course (70 instructional hours) combining technical and business mathematics, designed to improve general math and problem-solving capabilities in areas relevant to information technology. Topics include a thorough treatment of binary and hexadecimal number systems and related conversions, review of arithmetic and algebra, exponents and logarithmic functions, IP addressing, and truth tables, as well as business mathematics such as percentages, interest, and break-even analysis. Lab exercises include hands-on work with spreadsheets (e.g. Microsoft Excel) and some programming. Instruction is delivered on campus. Scheduled class times are as follows, representing approximately five instructional hours per week. Some flexibility may be available:
- Monday, 10:00 AM – 11:50 AM
- Wednesday, 10:00 AM – 11:50 AM
- Thursday, 9:00 AM – 9:50 AM
Details:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field, with at least three years related experience.
- Teaching experience in a post-secondary environment is an asset.
- Experience teaching discrete mathematics or quantitative subjects is an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, spreadsheets, and programming (C#) also an asset.
