Medicine Hat College (MHC) is pleased to offer a Student Research Assistant position within the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program. We invite current Medicine Hat College students in nursing or recent BN/BScN graduates who are motivated, analytical, and interested in public service technology to apply.
A little about the role:
As the Student Research Assistant (Nursing), you will work closely with BScN Research Team and an Information Technology Research Assistant to support the development of an innovative, in-house electronic health record (EHR) and documentation system for use in the Yuill School of Health and Community Services. This educational EHR will be used in laboratory, simulation, and classroom settings to help nursing students develop documentation, clinical reasoning, and patient care skills in a safe learning environment. You will contribute to nursing expertise to ensure the system reflects authentic clinical documentation practices and supports curriculum and learning outcomes.
This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the development of a learning tool that will be used by future nursing students while enhancing their own understanding of nursing documentation, informatics, and healthcare technology.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with BScN Research Team and the Information Technology Research Assistant to design and develop an educational electronic health record system.
- Provide input on nursing documentation standards, workflows, and patient care scenarios.
- Assist in creating realistic patient records, case studies, and simulation documentation templates.
- Review system functionality and provide feedback to ensure clinical relevance and usability.
- Participate in testing and evaluating the system from a nursing learner perspective.
- Support the development of educational resources and user guides for students and faculty.
- Work independently while contributing effectively to an interdisciplinary project team (BScN Research Team).

Wage Rate: $4400.00 gross for the term
