Medicine Hat College invites applications for a Casual Lab Assistant – Power Engineering (Lab Assistant I) in the School of Trades and Technology.
A little about the role:
The Lab Assistants maintain power plant equipment. This casual position is responsible for basic weekend maintenance including checking equipment for urgent issues, filling boilers, water testing, and other general maintenance as required by the plant chief, while keeping a safe working environment. This position is accountable to the regulations governing such equipment.Details:
- Alberta Fourth Class Power Engineer’s certificate of competency. Third or higher class preferred.
- One years’ experience operating high pressure boiler plants or industrial process plants as a power engineer preferred.
- Able to safely operate and troubleshoot boilers and auxiliary equipment.
- Ability to perform preventative and basic maintenance to boilers and auxiliary equipment such as cleaning, basic pipefitting and plumbing, and general checks.
- General use and knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of electrical apparatus and electrical power distribution.
- Knowledge of a DCS (distributed control system) common to power plant or industrial equipment.
Term of Employment: September 2026 to June 2027
Hours of Work: Approximately 6 hours per week
Wage Rate: $27.16 per hour (Start Rate); $30.70 per hour (Job Rate)
