Many academic programs within the Yuill School of Health and Community Services use standardized participants (or live actors) to support learning outcomes. A standardized participant (SP), also known as a simulated patient, client, or live actor, is a person trained to reproduce a scripted scenario with a predefined set of historical, emotional and/or physical criteria, including portraying personality traits and behavioural characteristics. Standardized participants can be used in clinical training or other simulation scenarios to provide students whole-person learning experiences in health programs such as Nursing and Practical Nursing, as well as Community Services programs such as Addictions Counselling, Criminal Justice, and Social Work. We are excited to establish a diverse set of actors that can be used for our various programs.
A little about the role:
Standardized participants will portray patients, complainants, victims, or suspects in realistic training simulations. These roles require strong improvisation skills and the ability to follow detailed role guidance provided by training leads. Selected candidates will receive an orientation prior to being scheduled for specific scenarios. This is a unique opportunity to support student learning through dynamic, interactive performance.
Acting days take place between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM and compensation is $100 per day.

- Maintain confidentiality regarding training content and participant performance.
- Communicate effectively with training staff and fellow actors.
- Be receptive to feedback and direction from training leads.
- Be available for an orientation session prior to scenario work.
- Be able to work collaboratively within a team setting.
- Have flexible availability to accommodate scheduled training dates.
- Have a passion or interest for community and social impact.
Term of Employment: Fall 2026 semester, beginning October 2026
Hours of Work: As scheduled (may include evening and weekend shifts)
Wage Rate: $100 per day
