Medicine Hat College invites applications for Subject Matter Experts to develop three different courses in the Yuill School of Heath and Community Services. These courses will initially be used by MHC’s Addictions Counselling program, but they could expand to other programs in the future. We are seeking one or multiple individuals to develop one or more of the courses listed below. Applicants may choose to take on a single course, several courses, or all three; however, all courses must be completed by August 2026.
A little about the role:
IDST 250 – Crisis Intervention and Conflict Management. Helping professionals often need to respond to individuals in crisis and de-escalate situations. This course presents conflict resolutions models and develops labs that apply conflict resolution models in authentic scenarios.
IDST 260 – Personal Health & Wellness. This course is designed to offer an overview, within the context of helping professions, of the physical, social, mental, environmental, and spiritual aspects of personal health and wellness.
IDST 270 – Leadership in the Helping Professions. The course examines leadership within personal and organizational contexts. Students explore leadership qualities and skills necessary to be effective leaders within the helping professions.
The SME will work in collaboration with the Dean, the Chair of Community Services, and the Centre for Innovation and Teaching Excellence (CITE) team to build course learning outcomes, teaching and learning activities, and authentic assessments. SME’s can apply to develop one or multiple courses.
Details:
- A minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in a health or community services-related position is required.
- A Master’s degree in Communication, Counselling, or a related field is preferred.
- Demonstrate competent level of knowledge for course material.
- Experience in teaching at a post-secondary level and with course/curriculum development is an asset.
- The ability to work collaboratively and make positive contributions as a team member.
- A commitment to student success.
Compensation: $6,000 per course
