What is the difference between a donation, sponsorship, and a partnership? 

• Donations support students, programs, or priority needs and are often eligible for charitable tax receipt.
• Sponsorships support events, initiatives or athletics and typically include promotional benefits. 
• Partnerships are longer-term collaborations with shared outcomes, such as workforce development or training, and can include donation or sponsorship components.  

How can I donate to Medicine Hat College? 

• You can donate online via CanadaHelps, by mail, or in person. 

Can I contribute in ways beyond financial giving?

• Yes. Community members are welcome to explore engagement opportunities beyond financial support, including volunteering and community involvement.

Will I receive a tax receipt?

• Most donations are eligible for a charitable tax receipt. Sponsorship contributions will receive a business receipt.

Can I choose where my donation goes? 

• Yes. You can generally direct your donation to a specific fund, program, or area of need. 

What are the benefits of monthly giving?

• Monthly gifts provide reliable, ongoing support for students and programs and make larger commitments more manageable over time and are generally eligible for a charitable tax receipt.

• Yes. Recognition for donors varies based on the nature and value of the contribution and is always discussed in advance to align with your comfort level and our guidelines. This often looks like charitable tax receipt, digital donor wall inclusion, and can even expand to website, social media posts, media visibility, naming opportunities and more. 

What is legacy giving or planned giving?

• Legacy giving, also known as planned giving, involves planning a future gift that supports Medicine Hat College beyond your lifetime. 

What types of planned gifts are possible? 

• Planned gifts may include bequests, estate gifts, investments, insurance policies, or beneficiary designations. 

Do legacy gifts need to be large or final? 

• No. Legacy gifts can be any size, and plans can be updated as your circumstances change. 

Do I need a lawyer or financial advisor? 

• We strongly recommend consulting a legal or financial advisor to ensure your gift aligns with your wishes and personal situation. 

Can I remain anonymous? 

• Yes. You may choose to remain anonymous at any time. 

How are my loved ones supported when the time comes? 

• Legacy gifts are handled with care and respect. Our team works with executors, advisors, and families to provide guidance, manage administrative details, and ensure your wishes are honoured while minimizing stress for loved ones. 

How will my gift be used? 

• Donations are used according to your agreement with Medicine Hat College and support students, programs, and learning priorities. 

Can I see the impact of my donation and how does MHC report them? 

• Impact is shared through reports, newsletters, and student or community stories. We also publish annual reports and provide regular updates highlighting outcomes and impact.

How do gifts benefit students and the community? 

• Gifts help fund student awards, enhance learning spaces, and support community-focused programming. 

How will my gift be recognized? 

• All gifts are recognized unless you choose anonymity. Recognition options vary and may include tribute or memorial acknowledgements or naming opportunities for major gifts. Gifts are recognized in a thoughtful and consistent way, aligned with donor preferences.
