Nominations now open for MHC’s Honorary Applied Degree

Medicine Hat College (MHC) is looking to recognize the vision, passion and accomplishment of a community-minded individual with its Honorary Applied Degree.

This deserving individual will be acknowledged for their achievement and distinction in activities that align with the vision of MHC, including: scholarship, the advancement of learning, welfare and social responsibility, creativity and innovation, enterprise, and public service.

Willie Desjardins is awarded the Honorary Degree recipient at MHC's 2025 convocation ceremony.

All members of the public are invited to submit a nomination and all information submitted is confidential. The selected candidate will be celebrated at MHC’s annual convocation ceremony on June 12, 2026.

“Celebrating our 60th convocation year is a proud moment for Medicine Hat College and the communities we serve,” says Sarah MacKenzie, MHC board chair. “This spring, we will continue that tradition by honouring individuals whose dedication and vision help build a stronger, more vibrant future for southeast Alberta.”

Last year’s recipient was Willie Desjardins in recognition of his commitment to youth development, athletics, and education. Desjardins joins previous award recipients Nichole Neubauer, Bob Wanner, Elder Charlie Fox, Gerry Labas, David J. Carter, Parvin Camphor, Lorne Taylor, Bill Yuill, Dr. Larry Henderson, Rob Renner, Dr. Roy Wilson, Dr. Richard and Deborah Northcott, Bob Porter, Dr. John Moldon, Dr. Ken Sauer, Jim Horsman, and Randy Eresman. MHC's first honorary applied degree was bestowed in 2005 to Terry Brekko.
