PJ's for a Purpose aims to help create nature inspired room for sick children
Sport & Event Marketing and Management (SEMM) students at Medicine Hat College (MHC) and the Medicine Hat Health Foundation are raising donations to support the Medicine Hat Hospital with their third PJ’s for a Purpose fundraiser. On February 6, students are asking local businesses and schools to donate $5 from each participating individual, who can then wear pajamas to their workplace. With the initiative, they hope to raise enough funds to create a nature-themed room in the hospital’s pediatric unit.
“Our goal is to raise $5,000 to create a comforting, imaginative space for children during their hospital stay,” says third‑year SEMM student, Asia McCulloch. “We’re excited to partner with our local communities as we work to bring light, creativity, and joy to the kids who need it most.”
PJ’s for a Purpose is part of the sport event management project course in which students are tasked to apply their learning from the program. Last year, the initiative led students to raise enough money to complete two new themed rooms in the pediatric unit at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.
McCulloch, notes that the hands-on component of the project is a benefit to the students.
“Our program sees this as a meaningful opportunity to give back to the community while gaining the real‑world, in‑person experience that will shape our future careers.”
Heather Bach, executive director of the Medicine Hat Health Foundation, adds, “What a great opportunity to go to work or school in comfortable clothes and make a difference to a child in a hospital at the same time.”
