MHC announces appointment of new Board of Governors member

Medicine Hat College (MHC) is pleased to welcome Robert Nicolay to its Board of Governors, following his recent appointment on Thursday, May 14, 2026.

Nicolay brings extensive executive leadership and governance experience across municipal government, energy and the private sector. He currently serves as President of Aurora Borealis Consulting, providing strategic advisory focused on organizational performance, governance and business transformation.

“Robert brings a depth of leadership experience and a strong understanding of municipal, corporate and governance environments,” says board chair, Sarah MacKenzie. “His perspective will be an asset to our work as we continue to advance the college’s priorities.”

He previously served as Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Medicine Hat and has held senior leadership roles, including CEO of ENMAX and a private oil company he founded, as well as contract City Manager for the City of Grande Prairie and the City of Medicine Hat. He has also contributed to governance in the post-secondary sector as a past board member of Mount Royal University.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to serve Medicine Hat College and honoured to be appointed as a Governor,” emphasizes Nicolay. “These are both exciting and challenging times in post-secondary education in Alberta, and I look forward to contributing to the work of the Board.

MHC also congratulates Ebenezer Asare on his reappointment to the board for a second term.

The Board of Governors provides guidance and oversight to the college, ensuring the institution continues to meet the needs of students, employees, and the communities it serves.
