Best of Last celebrates student creativity and growth at One on One Gallery

The One on One Gallery is showcasing outstanding student work through Best of Last, an annual exhibition featuring selected artwork created by Medicine Hat College Art & Design students during the 2025-2026 academic year.

Running from Sept. 1 to Oct. 22 in the Cultural Centre's gallery, the exhibition highlights some of the strongest student work across a range of courses, disciplines and creative approaches.

Visitors explore artwork featured in Best of Last, an annual exhibition showcasing selected Art & Design student work from the previous academic year at Medicine Hat College's One on One Gallery.

For many students, the exhibition serves as both a celebration of past accomplishments and a source of inspiration for future work.

“Best of Last is the first exhibition students encounter when they return in September,” says Brandon Robinson, program coordinator of Art & Design. “For new students, it gives them a glimpse of what they might explore and create over the next few years. For returning students, it is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate what they and their peers accomplished the year before.”

This year's exhibition highlights the range of creative voices within the Art & Design program. Visitors will encounter works that explore different media, techniques and forms of communication, reflecting the diverse interests and perspectives of emerging artists.

Best of Last highlights the diversity of creative work produced by Art & Design students, featuring a range of media, techniques and artistic perspectives.

Robinson notes that one of the strengths of the program is the opportunity for students to explore different media, creative approaches and ways of communicating ideas. The exhibition reflects that diversity while also offering insight into the creative process behind the work.

“There is a lot to look at, so I hope people spend some time with individual pieces and think about the ideas, experimentation and problem-solving behind them,” says Robinson. “The finished work is what we see on the wall or in the gallery, but each piece represents a much larger creative process and carries its own story.” 

A public reception will be held on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.

Robinson hopes visitors leave with a greater appreciation for both the work on display and the possibilities that exist within the program.

“I hope visitors come away with a sense of what our students are capable of and how much growth can happen during their time in the program,” says Robinson.
