Co-op Requirements
As an international student enrolled in a program with a practicum/clinical/co-op work placement or other mandatory work integrated learning requirement, you no longer need to apply for a separate co-op work permit. However, to still participate in a co-op placement, you must upload the co-op support letter for your study permit application which will be emailed to you with your Study Permit Approval Letter (SPAL), as it confirms the placement requirement for your program.
Your co-op support letter will still be emailed to you with your IRCC acceptance package, as it confirms the placement requirement for your program.
Medical Exam Requirements
If your placement is in a designated occupation, such as health services or working with children, you must also complete a medical exam by an approved IRCC physician. Please select your program type below to learn if a medical exam is required for your program.

However, you must be aware that it is solely your responsibility, and not that of MHC or MHC’s staff to:
- ensure that your immigration and legal documents are current and maintained
- ensure that any documentation submitted for immigration purposes meets requirements as indicated and is accurate and complete
- understand and be compliant with immigration requirements as they pertain to you, recognizing that this information is subject to change and that the most accurate, up-to-date information is found on the Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website: www.cic.gc.ca
