Paul is a passionate and interactive teacher who connects with students through classroom discussions, and group assignments. Paul encourages student questions, in class or outside, to further enhance the learning experience. Paul embraces opportunities to coach, guide, challenge, and empower students to reach their full potential.
Paul enjoys working with students in labs, giving them an opportunity to apply the knowledge and develop skills from classroom exercises. Paul really enjoys teaching topics that challenge students to view their studies with objectivity, and interacting with the students at a stage in their lives when they are making decisions about their futures.
There are several reasons Paul likes teaching at the MHC including; the staff at the MHC are passionate and focused on ensuring the best for their students. MHC staff want to see MHC students optimize their potential.
In the classroom, students can expect a respectful, professional, challenging and interactive classroom environment. Students will have opportunities to share their opinions and perspectives both in large and small groups.
Beginning in 1997, Paul completed nearly four years of military service, including a peacekeeping mission to the former Yugoslavia, Bosnia. Paul then went on to complete 23 years of policing with the Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) serving the City of Medicine Hat and the province of Alberta. Paul was promoted to Sergeant in 2010 and assigned to several areas during his career including the Patrol Section, the Major Crimes Section, the Professional Standards Unit, the Community Intelligence Team, and the Tactical Team. For 10 years, Paul worked with the MHPS Critical Incident and Stress Management Team.
Paul spent hundreds of hours instructing various investigative skills to police officers, including Interviewing skills and Major Case Management skills. Early in Paul's career, he spent thousands of hours instructing safe firearms handling skills to recruits and experienced police officers.
Paul loves spending time with his family, and especially taking walks with his Golden Doodle.
