Mechanical Design III
This advanced mechanical engineering technology course integrates mechanical design, manufacturing processes, and automation. Autodesk Inventor will be used for generating models, simulations, and technical drawings. Topics include design and selection of machine components and drive systems such as shafts, keys, gears, bearings, fasteners, and connections, including component sizing and selection. Students will apply geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T), 3D printing, laser cutting, computer numeric control (CNC) machining simulation, and an introduction to microcontroller (such as Arduino) coding. The course culminates in the design, fabrication, assembly, and programming of a functional prototype such as a robot, supported by technical drawings and specifications.
- Prerequisite: Min. C in EDAT 231
