Histories of Canada since 1867

This course examines political, social, cultural, and economic themes in the history of Canada since Confederation in 1867, focusing on important and controversial issues, events, and processes that have shaped Canada. Topics include industrialization; urbanization; immigration; changing gender and family roles; Indigenous peoples and the state; the impact of two world wars on Canadian society; multiculturalism and transnationalism; Québec, nationalism, and federalism; regionalism; and Canadian foreign policy in a globalized world.
