Work Integrated Learning (WIL)
Medicine Hat College is building on existing work-integrated learning success by adopting a more holistic lens with the goal of providing more support for current WIL and creating new nontraditional work-integrated learning (WIL) experiences for our students.
MHC has adopted the Cooperative Education and Work Integrated Learning Canada (CEWIL) definition of work-integrated learning, which focuses on a mutually beneficial relationship for all partners:
Work-integrated learning is a form of curricular experiential education that formally integrates a student’s academic studies with quality experiences within a workplace or practice setting. WIL experiences include an engaged partnership of at least: an academic institution, a host organization, and a student. WIL can occur at the course or program level and includes the development of student learning objectives and outcomes related to: employability, agency, knowledge and skill mobility and life-long learning.
WIL experiences are offered at the course and program level and through non-curricular student groups and student support services. By aligning to the college’s 2020-2030 strategic plan – and the Alberta 2030 initiative – MHC will support current activities and create opportunities to develop new and creative WIL experiences for our students.
