The Hospital Unit Clerk Certificate program consists of 4 courses and an integrated practicum, providing students with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to succeed in a healthcare setting.

You have the option to take the full certificate or take individual courses to build the skills you need most.

Courses include:

  • Productivity and Workplace Communication
  • MS Office Basics: Word, Excel & File Maintenance
  • The Role of the Unit Clerk

Additional requirements include:

  • Standard First Aid with Level C CPR
  • Keyboarding / Skill Building through www.typing.com (demonstrate 30wpm with 90% accuracy)


Course requirements are similar between the Medical Office Assistant and Hospital Unit Clerk programs. The courses are scheduled so you can complete both certificates, if you wish.

  • Medical Terminology textbook purchased through the MHC Bookstore

To earn a Hospital Unit Clerk Certificate of Proficiency, students must complete required courses with a minimum mark of 'B'.

Students must apply for the certificate upon successful completion of all required courses.
