MHC enhances Job Fair in response to current economy
February 17, 2016
In response to challenging economic times, Medicine Hat College (MHC) is enhancing the services being offered to the community during their annual Job Fair on Wednesday, February 24, 2016.
Free information sessions will be offered by the college and partnering organizations including Alberta Works, Being Human Services, Canadian Mental Health and MNP. Topics covered will include targeting a job search, services available for job seekers, debt management and financial aid for returning students.
“The sessions are focused on supporting those within the community that are experiencing job loss or are going through a work transition,” says Andrea Aarden, career advisor.
In addition to information sessions, MHC staff have worked together to offer a hub of college services together in one location at the Job Fair. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak to academic advisors, trades instructors, human resources staff and more in one convenient location.
“Our goal is to make the college as accessible as possible. For people who are in transition, it can be difficult to navigate all of the options that are available. The Job Fair gives us the opportunity to provide a one-stop-shop experience,” says Aarden.
The Job Fair will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. throughout Centennial Hall and the B-Wing, with sessions taking place in the Eresman Theatre. Over 40 exhibitors will be in attendance. Two tuition vouchers, valued at $500 each will given to two attendees of the event.
“We really want to reinforce that this event is free and open to everyone. It is a great way to get your resume out there and to see what support services are available throughout the community,” says Aarden. “We want people to know that they don’t have to go through these stressful times alone and that there are a lot of resources available to them. We encourage everyone to come and ask questions.”
